Kilfenora, Co. Clare
Description
This is an award-winning display center that depicts the history of the Burren region. "A Walk Through Time" takes you back to when the area was a warm, tropical sea. Follow the story of how the landscape was created and how the cycle of life first began.
Walking through the display is an easy way to understand the geology of the region and all the factors that created the unique landscape. This is a good place to come first to educate yourself before setting off to explore the region.
The center also features a cozy tea room and gift shop that sells locally produced crafts.
Kilfenora is known as "The City of the Crosses" due to its historical significance as the religious center of the region. Visit St. Fachtnan's 12th century Cathedral and medieval high crosses adjacent to The Burren Centre.
