For those elegant evening meals, think of fine crystal, white linen tablecloths, sparkling chandeliers, and...chilli peppers! Dozens of stunning hand blown glass lamps, crystal renderings of chilli peppers, suspended from the ceiling add a brilliant touch of flare to the contemporary design of famed Avenue Restaurant. A bright red tufted backboard runs along one wall, the matching fabric captured again in draperies and plush carpet: all complemented by chrome chairs, white canvas, and a stainless steel bar. For an at-home culinary touch, plump, healthy strings of dried peppers and garlic line the walls of the open bar. The multi-level floor design imitates the natural lines and curves of the restaurant's signature piece: the chilli pepper.
An evening's menu consists of originals like Something Soup, Pressed Rabbit Terrine, Gressenham Duck Fillet, Finnebrogue Venison, and Seared Mango Sea Bass. Main courses are served with yet another of the restaurant's prides: fresh organic vegetables and fruits.
Noted also for its pairing of fine food with fine wine, The Avenue includes offerings of the world-famous wines of Cloudy Bay (named by infamous Captain Hook on his first voyage to New Zealand in 1710).
With its unique decor in a sleek, modern style, the Avenue Restaurant is airy, spacious and relaxing. The Avenue Restaurant has been recommended for inclusion in the Michelin Guide 2007, the classic guide for exceptional restaurants.
