Ireland is famous for its pubs and for its people's love of "the drink". Irish Pubs are a common sight in cities across the globe but it is in Ireland itself that the real Irish Pub can be found. Pub culture is the bedrock of Irish social life. Pubs in Ireland differ quite a lot from their exported versions. It is commonplace to see people of all ages and walks of life engaged in lively discussion over a pint of the "black stuff".
More and more pubs are beginning to serve what is called "pub grub", traditional irish food and is usually served to a very high standard. Closing time is normally 11.30pm Monday-Saturday in summer and 11pm the rest of the year and on Sundays. However, there is an increasing number of bars in Dublin and throughout Ireland with late licenses, especially in Dublin and Cork which serve until 1 or 2am.
