This tour combines two famous writer’s festivals in Ireland – Dublin Writers’ Festival and Listowel Writers’ Week. It also allows you to experience some of the history, heritage and beauty of the Emerald Isle.
Day 1: Friday 24th May 2013
Your tour will begin once you have arrived at Dublin Airport and transfer to the city. There In the afternoon you will be treated to a tour whicinclude entrance to Trinity College Library and the Book of Kells exhibition and Guinness Storehouse. Overnight Academy Plaza Hotel, DBB
Day 2: Saturday 25th May 2013
This morning there will be an optional tour to Powerscourt House and Gardens and Avoca. Alternatively, you could tour one of the many literary sites in Dublin such as the National Library or Dublin Writers Museum. In the afternoon and evening enjoy the Writers’ Festival. Day 3: Sunday 26th May 2013
There will be an optional tour this morning to the Boyne Valley which will include a tour of Newgrange or Knowth Passage Tomb and a visit to the heritage town of Trim or Kells. During the afternoon and evening enjoy the Writers’ Festival. There will also be an optional evening Literary Pub Crawl visiting several of Dublin’s famous pubs accompanied by two actors who will introduce some of Ireland’s most famous authors such as Oscar Wilde, Seamus Heaney and Paula Meehan. Day 4: Monday 27th May 2013
Once you have finished your breakfast, you will be invited to travel through the Garden of Ireland, Wicklow, to the early Christian ecclesiastical settlement founded by St. Kevin in the 6th century at Glendalough and then onwards to Kilkenny and take a tour of the 13th century castle. Following the tour visit the Kilkenny Design Centre situated in what was once the stables of historic Kilkenny Castle. Overnight Pembroke Hotel, Kilkenny BB
Day 5: Tuesday 28th May 2013
After breakfast check out of your hotel and travel to the iconic Rock of Cashel, a spectacular group of medieval buildings set on an outcrop of limestone in the Golden Vale including the 12th century round tower, High Cross and Romanesque Chapel, 13th century Gothic cathedral, 15th century Castle and the restored Hall of the Vicars Choral. Continue on to Limerick for an Angela’s Ashes walking tour, visiting many places that inspired and were included in the world famous book. Finally for today travel to your hotel in Ballybunion, just outside Listowel, arriving late afternoon. Your coach will transfer you to Listowel after dinner and will return at about 11.00pm. Day 6: Wednesday 29th May 2013
On day 6 you will transfer into Listowel where you can enjoy some free time or take the optional tour to the Cliffs of Moher. If you take the tour you will be returned to Listowel late afternoon where you can participate in the festival.. Return coach to your hotel will depart late evening. Day 7: Thursday 30th May 2013
After breakfast transfer into Listowel, enjoy some free time or take the optional tour to the Dingle Peninsula. If you take the tour you will be returned to Listowel mid-afternoon where you can participate in the festival. Return coach to your hotel will depart late evening. Day 8: Friday 31st May 2013
Take a transfer into Listowel, enjoy some free time or take the optional tour to Killarney and the Gap of Dunloe. If you take the tour you will be returned to Listowel mid-afternoon where you can participate in the festival. Return coach to your hotel will depart late evening. Day 9: Saturday 1st June 2013
Once you have checked out of your hotel after breakfast and start your return journey to Dublin first stopping at Ireland’s prettiest village, Adare. Adare village has a rich wealth of heritage, as well as architectural and scenic beauty. Two groups of world famous, ornate, thatched cottages line part off the village’s broad main street, punctuated with beautiful stone buildings, medieval monasteries and ruins. Then travel across the country to the Irish National Stud and Japanese Gardens in Kildare. The stud is the only one in Ireland open to the public and has reared several classic winners and the Japanese Gardens are considered as one of the best in Europe of its kind. Continue on to Dublin when after checking into your hotel, the remainder of the day is free for individual sightseeing and shopping. Day 10: Sunday 2nd June 2013
Check out of your hotel after breakfast and transfer to Dublin Airport for your return flight.
